This collection consists of twenty-two letters of outgoing correspondence from Union soldier Hiram Matthew to his wife Elmira Matthew of Campbellsburg, Washington County, Indiana.

The collection includes sympathy letters to Sallie after his death and other miscellaneous family papers.
