Records of War Memorial Chapel

Abstract

The Records of War Memorial Chapel contain architectural records, posters, photographs, and prints pertaining to Virginia Tech’s War Memorial Chapel - including the Memorial Court, pylons, and cenotaph - and its construction in the 1950s and early 1960s. There are also a few pamphlets detailing the dedication and commemoration of the chapel, as well as records from the chapel after it was opened.

The collection contains 102 letters from Joseph F. Ware to his wife, Susie, in Blacksburg, Virginia, while he was serving overseas during and after World War I. The other significant portion of this collection contains nearly 200 photographs.

Scope and Contents The Lindsay West Papers span the years 1975-1996. The bulk of the collection is comprised of subject files West kept while she was serving on the Montgomery County Board of Supervisors in southwest Virginia. These files contain inter- and intra- office county government correspondence and memos, legal opinions, government documents, reports and studies, many of which include maps; and clippings. Abstract

This collection contains a spiral bound photo book that contains photographs of Kentland Plantation and surrounding areas. This collection also contains a sheet of paper, probably from a scrapbook, with photographs of Kentland and Walnut Spring. Kentland Farm is located in nothern Montgomery County, Virginia, and was formed in the early 1800s by James Randal Kent.
