Abstract

The New River Investment Company Deeds document land ownership in Radford, Virginia, and include one deed from 1890 and three drafts of a deed from 1892. Restrictions on land development appear in the 1890 deed. The 1892 drafts lift a vendor's lien.

Newlee Family Papers

Scope and Content

The collection includes a paper on the history of Smithfield Plantation, the Preston family, and Virginia Newlee (Col. Robert Newlee's daughter) written by George Shackelford in 1980. In addition, there is an obituary of Colonel Newlee, and a newspaper clipping from 1916 with the muster roll of the Company of Virginia Volunteers in the Mexican War. Also the collection includes a muster roll of Company L, Fourth Virginia Regiment, of which Newlee was captain.

The Newport and Clover Hollow, Giles County History collection contains oral history interviews, transcripts, notes, newspaper clippings, historic district survey forms, a video tape, and a geological survey map related to the creation of the Greater Newport Rural Historic District.
