Oral history interviews conducted by students of Dr. Emily Satterwhite's HUM 2504 Introduction to American Studies class with interviewees who work on or near the Virginia Tech campus. Interviews explore the particular jobs of the interviewees and the issues related to working for these interviewees. The collection also contains annotated bibliographies and reflections papers created by students about their interview experience. There are images of some of the interviewees.

Photocopies of genealogical research and records, including family Bible records, family group sheets, and pedigree charts relating to ancestors of Martha Ann Hite Tant, including the Agee, Brown, Davenport, Davidson, Floyd, Haden, Harman, Hite/Hight, Linkous, Marrs, May, Mills, Owen(s), Preston, Salmon(s), Scott, Shelton, and Trollinger families, of Henry, Montgomery, Pittsylvania, and Tazewell counties, Virginia, and elsewhere.

The collection includes a letter from J. W. & Susan M. Tarter to J. W.'s brother, Confederate soldier James H. Tarter; a CSA envelope, and James H.'s Oath of Allegiance certificate.

This collection contains financial documents, personal records, and ephemera related to the medical practice of Dr. James E. Tarter of Wytheville, Virginia, from about 1879 to 1941.

The collection contains cost office and business ledgers are from William J. Tarter, a merchant and postmaster of Favonia (Wythe County), Virginia.

The collection contains newspaper clippings relating to industrial and economic development in the New River Valley, with an emphasis on the Radford Army Ammunition Plant, together with studies titled "Facts About the Blacksburg Community" and "Some Facts About Virginia's People."

The Allen Taylor ledger contains documentation of Taylor's work as an attorney in Montgomery and neighboring southwestern Virginia counties.

Estate inventory of James Taylor, of Patrick County, Virginia, signed by George Fulcher, M. Sandefun, Wm. Jones and Jno. Clark.

The Taylor correspondences collection includes two types of materials: envelopes from correspondence, mostly to Taylor; and correspondence to and from Taylor, largely dating between 1859 and 1861. Correspondence includes Taylor's daily news, as well as news from family and friends. Several 1860 and 1861 letters mention politics at the start of the Civil War.
