This collection consists of papers from the Thompson family, largely S.A. Thompson, who was a lawyer, U.S. Commissioner, and Virginia Delegate. He resided in Stuart, Virginia. These papers include financial and legal documents as well as correspondence, dating from 1899-1930.
William Q. Thomson Day Book
This collection is a ledger or day book used by enslaver and farmer William Q. Thomson of Happy Valley, Louisa County, Virginia, dated 1845-1854, 1882-1891. The book includes debts to associates, purchases, and bills paid, including for family members. Some of the early entries are for hiring the labor of enslaved people. Thomson (ca. 1825-1891) enslaved at least 22 people, inlcuding Georgeanna and her baby Peter Dudley.
John O. Thornhill Letter
The collection contains a letter from John O. Thornhill of the 2nd Virginia Cavalry, written apparently while on medical leave at Campbell, Virginia, during the American Civil War.
Vaiden A. Thornton Collection
The collection contains account books, dairy building blueprints designed by Virginia Polytechnic Institute, and various work-related papers created between 1930 and 1953. A few of the items are undated. Thornton ran a dairy and ice operation in Stony Creek, Virginia, in addition to his job as an insurance company medical examiner.
