Abstract

Herbert E. Valentine (1841-1917) served in Company F, 23rd Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry during the American Civil War. The collection contains a 50-page scrapbook compiled by Valentine with newspaper clippings written in 1911-1912 about his regiment's war activities, photographs from a monument dedication ceremony for his regiment in New Berne, North Carolina in 1908, and 39 ink wash scenes sketched during the war years.

The Virginia Elections Collection contains United States polls and ballots collected from Amelia County, Virginia, from 1804, 1808, and 1865. Some of the material pertains to election polls in the Confederate Army during the American Civil War.
