Abstract

This item is a vintage hand grinder, probably from the early 20th century. It's a small jar with a screw-on lid, fitted with a spout and handcrank. Generally, these were suited for hand-grinding nuts or small quanities of dried fruit or grains. This item was donated along with Artifcat-061, Egg beater.

Hardywood Fightin' Hokies Lager Bottle

Abstract

The bottle is amber with a sticker label that wraps around majority of the bottle's body. The label has a brick pattern at the top, followed by an orange line, and below the line is all maroon. The front of the bottle says "HARDYWOOD" above a maroon gobbler that is inside a white diamond. Below the gobbler is the text "FIGHTIN' HOKIES LAGER ALCOHOL 5.0% BY VOL . 12 FL OZ." The same logo and text is repeated on the side of the bottle.

This collection contains the photographs of Earl Palmer, an award-winning photographer from Cambria, Virginia, whose work depicted the landscape and traditional culture of rural Appalachia in Kentucky, North Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia.
