Samuel Edwin Carnahan (1884-1970) graduated from Virginia Agricultural and Mechanical College and Polytechnic Institute (VPI) in 1907 with a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering. The collection contains his 1907 VPI diploma, signed by VPI president John McBryde and the Board of Visitors.

Christian (father of one of the accused), and proceedings of a joint legislative committee investigating the incident and the college's faculty and administrative practices and policies.

The hood is black with a red, sliver, and white lining. A tag on the lining near the neck of the hood reads "THE C.E. WARD CO. NEW LONDON, OHIO 3."
The robe is also black in color with dark blue velvet strip details down the front and on the sleeves. A tag inside of the robe reads "R.J.H. INTERCOLLEGIATE BUREAU COTRELLS LEONARD ALBANY, NNY. U.S.A. MAKERS OF THE CAPS, GOWNS AND HOODS TO THE AMERICAN COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES."
