Virginia Polytechnic Institute Seal Press, c. 1896-1970
Scope and Content
This collection consists of a press, and two plates depicting the V.P.I. seal.
The press is made of metal and has been painted black. The press consists of the body and the lever that presses the seal into desired page. On both sides of the press is a star design. The center of the star is a red circle, while the points are gold. Three gold lines come of off both sides of the star. There is a gold stripe that goes around the base of the press. Stamped on the bottom of the press in yellow is "MADE IN U.S.A."
The design on the two seal plates are identical, except one is meant to indent the seal into the page, while the other will leave it embossed. The V.P.I. seal is in the center with "UT PROSIM" underneath it. Curving around the seal is text that says "VIRGINIA POLYTECHNIC INSTITUTE." Both seal plates show this in reverse. On the back of the embossing plate a small screw is in the center.
The collection is in fair conditon. The press has some chipped paint and scuffs. The seal plates have some residue on them.
