John H. Squires was a native a North Carolina and later worked there as a banker. Squires was educated at Virginia Tech (B.S., Agriculture, 1905; M.S., 1906) and later attended Cornell University (Ph.D., 1909). Squires died March 14, 1934.

Correspondence with Julian Burruss indicates Squires donated money to Virginia Polytechnic Institute at the time of his death. The collection also includes a copy of his will with supporting documentation.
