John H. Squires Papers
Scope and Contents
The collection contains papers relating to Squires' will with affidavits, notes regarding stocks, correspondence, his diplomas from Virginia Tech and Cornell University, and a certificate from the Nobles of the Mystic Shrine. Correspondence with Julian Burruss indicates Squires donated money to Virginia Polytechnic Institute at the time of his death. The collection also includes a copy of his will with supporting documentation and several diplomas and a certificate.

John H. Squires was a native of North Carolina and later worked there as a banker for Union National Bank. Squires was educated at Virginia Tech (B.S., Agriculture, 1905; M.S., 1906) and later attended Cornell University (Ph.D., 1909). He also donated the funds for building Virginia Tech's student union, now Squires Student Center. Squires died March 14, 1934.

Source of Acquisition
The John H. Squires Papers were acquired by Special Collections and University Archives in 1962 and 1970.
The Map of Caldwell County, NC, 1931 (Map.0429) was separated to the Historical Map Collection.
