Scope and Content

The collection contains papers relating to John H. Squires' will with affidavits, notes regarding stocks, correspondence, his diplomas from Virginia Tech and Cornell University, and a certificate from the Nobles of the Mystic Shrine. Correspondence with Julian Burruss indicates Squires donated money to Virginia Polytechnic Institute at the time of his death. The collection also includes a copy of his will with supporting documentation and several diplomas and a certificate.

Biographical Note

John H. Squires was a native of North Carolina and later worked there as a banker for Union National Bank. Squires was educated at Virginia Tech (B.S., Agriculture, 1905; M.S., 1906) and later attended Cornell University (Ph.D., 1909). He also donated the funds for building Virginia Tech's student union, now Squires Student Center. Squires died March 14, 1934.
