Scope and Content

This collection contains of a draft of a proposal, "Concept Proposal for Preservation of Aerospace Technology Project (PAT) [Improving Technology Preservation Processes]" written by former NASA aerospace engineer C. Wayne Ottinger and others for what would become PAT Projects, Inc. It also includes an executive summary, cover letter, and slides of proposal presentation. The proposal suggests the need for documenting aerospace history. Primary goals of the project include providing "a lead role in improving and developing processes to identify, prioritize, acquire, preserve, and communicate information and artifacts that constitute Endangered Information in aerospace technology" and creating "a consensus for the establishment of an aerospace history discipline center."

Administrative History - PAT Projects, Inc.

From 1994 until about 2002, PAT Projects, Inc. existed as a not-for-profit company "providing research, technical and educational publications, and multimedia productions for the preservation of aerospace technology." The company also worked to provide materials for K-12 classroom education about applications of math and science.

Biographical Note - C. Wayne Ottinger

Aerospace engineer C. Wayne Ottinger (b. 1933) served as managing director of PAT Projects, Inc. In 1960, he joined NASA, eventually working on the Lunar Landing Research Vehicle project for the Apollo program. He left for Bell Aerosystems in 1966 to work on the Lunar Landing Training Vehicles project, also used in the Apollo program. In 2008, Ottinger founded Aerospace Legacy Engineering & Technology Recovery Organization (ALETRO), a non-profit that "help[s] locate, preserve, and present the technical information from America's space race."
