Administrative History

The Virginia Tech Amateur Radio Association began in 1913 but has been officially associated with the college since 1922. The club also has a sister club in Russia. The club’s purpose is to encourage an understanding of and an interest in amateur radio, to provide a station for the uses of club members, and to provide emergency and public service communications.

Abstract

The collection documents the history of the Virginia Tech Amateur Radio Association since its founding in 1913 to encourage an understanding of and an interest in amateur radio, to provide a station for the uses of club members, and to provide emergency and public service communications. The collection consists of certificates, logs, membership lists, correspondence, publications, violations, registration forms, yearly recollections, and copies of radio licenses. There are also photographs and negatives, including items removed from a scrapbook.

The collection is arranged alphabetically by subject matter. In each folder, the contents are organized chronologically.

Source of Acquisition

The Records of the Virginia Tech Amateur Radio Association were donated to Special Collections and University Archives in 2006.

Appraisal

The scrapbook of photographs was taken apart, and items were labeled on the back with their order number.
