Biographical Note
Robert Chirver or Chirves, previously registered under the name Robert Benner, aged 23, was a free man of color. At the time of his registration, Robert was 23 years old, five feet eight inches tall, and "of a mulatto complexion" with "a scar on the left side of his neck - and was born free."

Abstract
This collection contains one "free man of color" registration for Robert Chirver or Chirves, a resident of Petersburg, Virginia. Signed and dated May 4, 1841, at Petersburg, this form was proof of Chirver's status as a free man.
