Biographical Note

Robert Garrett Moore was born to John R. and Mary Elizabeth Ford Moore on August 15, 1897, in Washington, D.C., where his father worked for the U.S. Treasury Department. He moved to Roanoke, Virginia, with his mother following the death of his father, and there attended high school. Moore attended Virginia Agricultural and Mechanical College and Polytechnic Institute, graduating with honors in Civil Engineering in 1922 and becoming a 2nd Lieutenant in the Corps of Cadets. On June 18, 1925, Moore drowned at Fort Humphreys, Virginia, while working as a reserve officer in the U.S. Army.

Moore Collection, 1910-1925, contains school notes and notebooks, correspondence, engineering drawings, memorabilia, newspaper articles, and his diploma from Virginia Agricultural and Mechanical College and Polytechnic Institute (VPI). The collection was compiled by Moore (1897-1925), a 1922 VPI graduate.
