This collection contains a number of correspondence between Shirley Mittleman Clifford and her family while she was living in the United Kingdom. This collection also contains various financial and legal documents belonging to Clifford and her husband Alan F. Clifford. Also in this collection is a menu and program from the Stoney Susser College May Week Ball.

Biographical Note
Shirley Catherine Mittleman was born June 2, 1923, in Philedelphia, Pennsylvania, and lived until November 20, 1997. She served in the United States Marine Corps in the Women's Reserve from 1943-1945. She married Alan Frank Clifford (1919-1995) on August 20, 1949, in Philadelphia. The Cliffords moved to Blacksburg when Alan Clifford became a professor of chemistry and head of the chemistry department at Virginia Tech in 1966. In the collection, Shirley Clifford's Certificate of Registration stated her occupation as "housewife." The couple had two children, including Abbie Louise Clifford who married John Chandler Wysor III.

This collection contains a number of personal correspondence between Shirley Mittleman Clifford and family while Clifford was living with her husband in the United Kingdom. This collection also contains various financial and legal documents as well as a menu and program. Clifford (1923-1997) was a former member of the Women's Reserve of the United States Marine Corps.
