This collection contains records--including correspondence, reports, and printed materials--of a local civilian defense council organized in Blacksburg, Virginia during World War II.

The Town of Blacksburg, [Virginia], Collection consists of a variety of Blacksburg town documents and reports collected by Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University librarians. Materials include financial statements (1927-1951), a typescript annual report (1954), a population study (1944), Chamber of Commerce brochures, By-Laws and Ordinance of Blacksburg (1885), and information on elections (1936-1968).

The Blacksburg Woman's Club Records include club correspondence, minutes, financial records, scrapbooks, and printed material.

The Blacksmith Ledger is from Rural Retreat, VA c. 1928 and features approx. 200 pages of local customer order logs.

Four wartime letters and a post-war diary of Daniel Blain, a Confederate soldier in the 1st Rockbridge Artillery during the American Civil War and later a Presbyterian minister in Rockbridge County, Virginia.

The Blair-Weindel-Schrader Family Papers include nearly 100 letters to and from letters of the three families, all based in Marion, Virginia, from about 1958-1998. Many of the letters are typed, but include handwritten addenda. The letters, written to relatives in and around other parts of Virginia, contain substantial detail on family members and local/regional activities.

Map centers on Burks Garden in Bland County, Virginia, and shows ores of mineral deposit in the region. Document contains handwritten note commenting on the text that accompanies the map.
