Abstract

Letter from Henry M. Bond, of Company B, 45th Massachusetts Infantry (aka 45th Massachusetts Volunteer Militia) during the American Civil War. Bond describes his regiment's recent movements, to Trent, Pollacksville, and Young's; marching through the rain; and his opinion of North Carolina.

George W. Bonsall Diaries

Abstract

From Cincinnati, Ohio, George W. Bonsall (1845-1910) was a corporal in the 138th Regiment Ohio National Guard (originally formed as the 2nd Ohio Volunteer Reserve Militia) during the American Civil War. The collection consists of two volumes of a manuscript diary, copied in 1865 of entries Bonsall wrote between May 23, 1861 (his 16th birthday) and 1865. The diaries also contain sporatic entries dating through 1878.

Abstract Created in 1865, this CDV depicts John Wilkes Booth being shot on April 26, 1865, and is published by Hacker, Rhode Island, 1865. The drawing shows David Herold being captured outside the barn. On the verso is advertising for "Bicknell's Syrup", a cholera remedy, which contains description of a "purely vegetable" remedy for cholera prepared by Edward Sutton, Providence, Rhode Island, Demas Barnes & Co., as well as a testimony from wholesale dealer Benjamin Hall. S. V. Bosserman was a cvilian livng in Virginia during the American Civil War. This letter was written by Bosserman and sent to a Miss A. H. Bosserman. Bosserman asks if Miss Bosserman had heard that General "Stonewall" Jackson had been killed, and then goes on from there to write about what was going on in the area where Bosserman was living.
