"Hokie" Wooden Sculpture

Abstract

The sculpture is made up of maroon toned wood and tan toned wood pieces that form the HokieBird mascot with his arms crossed. His beak, eyes, and ends of tail are made of the tan wood while the rest is a maroon wood. White dots are painted on the eyes, and written in black between his toes is "TM." Wrapped around his neck is a black cord with a orange, tan and maroon HokieBird pin attached to it.

The collection contains a HokieBird Bobblehead with its hand raised to represent the number one. Presumably made by the company PPi Sports, the bobblehead likely dates from the 2000s or 2010s.

Bertram A. Holtzworth Scrapbook

Abstract

This scrapbook contains photographs and memorabilia dating 1918-1926 from United States Military Academy (West Point) and Virginia Polytechnic Institute (VPI) by Bertram A. Holtzworth, who attended VPI before graduating from West Point in 1927. He served in the U.S. Army from his time as a cadet at West Point until his retirement as Major General in 1963.

After earning his B.S. and M.S. degrees from Virginia Polytechnic Institute (VPI), John Redd Hutcheson (1886-1962) began working at the Virginia Agricultural Extension Service in 1914, becoming its director in 1919.
