Howard S. Avery Papers

Abstract Howard S. Avery graduated from Virginia Tech in 1927 with a B.S. in Mining and Engineering. He worked for the American Brake Shoe Company, later known as the Abex Corporation, as a research metallurgist from 1935 to 1971. Willis A. Babcock Diary

The collection consists of a Babcock's diary from 1864. Entries detail camp life throughout parts of Virginia, the siege at Petersburg, and his experiences with guard, orderly, and police duties. Babcock served with the 10th Regiment, New York Heavy Artillery.

Badger at Nashua, [New Hampshire], to his mother regarding his intention to enlist in the 6th New Hampshire Infantry as a nurse, apparently in hopes of later obtaining a position as a steward or surgeon, during the American Civil War.
