Abstract This collection consists of a Caroline Rifles coatee possibly from c. 1861-1865. The coatee is a blue grey color and made of wool with a possibly quilted wool lining. The coatee has gold buttons with palmetto trees and "S.C." The back skirt is split in half with three buttons on each side and a black stripe under each button. This Drum Major's Mace was previously owned by Ralph Edward Hughes and was possibly given to him by Sherman Edmond Seelinger. The mace is approxamately three feet long and is wrapped in orange and maroon ribbon, with excess ribbon hanging off of one end. On the opposite end of the mace is a rounded wooden top that has been painted gold.
